HOLD THESE TRUTHS Premieres in Hawaii February 21-March 2 Presented by Daniel Dae Kim and Honolulu Theatre For Youth

Here we are, a month into the New Year! And 2013 has already brought many unexpected blessings—one of which is our upcoming HOLD THESE TRUTHS Hawaiian premiere, produced by HAWAII FIVE-0’s celebrated star Daniel Dae Kim and Honolulu Theatre For Youth!

How did this happen? Last November, Daniel flew out to NYC to see his old NYU buddy Joel de la Fuente perform HOLD THESE TRUTHS at the Epic Theatre Ensemble, and was so moved by the show and Joel’s tour de force performance that he told us he wanted to try to bring the show to Hawaii. We were all thrilled when just a short time later, he called to say that Honolulu Theatre For Youth had made a rare agreement to insert the show into their already announced–and up and running–season. So we will doing six performances there, and couldn’t be more excited.

Of the play, Daniel says: “I was deeply moved by HOLD THESE TRUTHS when I saw it in New York. Having lived in Hawaii for almost nine years now, I recognized how inspiring Gordon Hirabayashi’s story would be to our community. Given the islands’ unique connection to World War II through the 442nd Infantry and 100th Combat Battalion, bringing this production seemed to be a natural fit. It’s a beautifully written, expertly acted and directed piece that ultimately reaffirms what it means to be American. I’m honored to have the opportunity, with HTY, to bring it to Hawaii.”

Hold These Truths - Honolulu FlyerAnd of Joel: “Not only is he a very dear friend, but a superb actor who’s deserving of all the success he’s enjoyed with HOLD THESE TRUTHS. Watching an artist of his caliber perform live is a great opportunity for people of Hawaii to see a world class performance.”

We are also deeply grateful that the production will be dedicated to Hawaii’s late Senator Daniel K. Inouye, who recently passed away in December, and who left his state and country with an incredible legacy of service, both in WWII battle with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team as well as the United States Senate.

A thousand mahalos to Daniel Dae Kim for his incredible generosity in bringing this about, and his passion for sharing Gordon’s story with Honolulu. We can’t wait to get to there. Stay tuned!
