Jeanne in A CAGE OF FIREFLIES Reading for East West Players at JANM Tateuchi Democracy Forum, March 21

Emily Kuroda, Phyllis Look, Dian Kobayashi, Daniel Akiyama and me in our mountain cabin at Sundance Institute Theatre Lab, July 2012

Mark the date on your calendars!  On Thursday, March 21st, at 7:30 pm, I will be doing a FREE reading of Daniel Akiyama’s lovely play A CAGE OF FIREFLIES for the East West Players Writers Gallery at the Japanese American National Museum’s  Tateuchi Democracy Forum.  Yes, this is the very same play that I workshopped last summer at the Sundance Theatre Institute with my actor buddies Emily Kuroda and Dian Kobayashi, directed by the wonderful Phyllis Look.  FIREFLIES just had its world premiere at Honolulu’s Kumu Kahua Theatre, with a completely sold-out run and a sold-out extension as well.  And not only that, but FIREFLIES was playing at the same time (February 21 to March 2) as my solo play about Gordon Hirabayashi, HOLD THESE TRUTHS, produced by Daniel Dae Kim at the Honolulu Theatre For Youth, starring Joel de la Fuente, and directed by Lisa Rothe.  So Daniel and Phyllis came to see TRUTHS, and Lisa, Joel, Daniel and I went to see FIREFLIES and—-well, you get the picture.  Lots of theater love going around in Honolulu that week!

I am so excited to be able to revisit Daniel’s beautiful and delicate play, full of quiet yearning and passion.  Please see the flyer below for description, and reservation info through East West Players’ Facebook Page. There is another description of the event on the JANM website, which says you can also reserve seats by emailing rsvp@janm.org or calling 213.625.0414 at least 48 hours prior to the event.

See you there, friends!
